June 6/2008

Hello everyone who actually came to class. As you may know the Softball Provincials were hosted at the park, mysteriously causing over half the class to be sick I guess.

Due to this, the class just studied on their own and nothing new was learned or reviewed. However, there was some disscussion about an orc which may possibly look like one teacher in our school.

This is that orc that may or may not look like a teacher in our school.

This picture on the other hand is completely irrelevant, but it is funny and we could all use a little laugh before the exam right?

So, now that everyone is caught up on our discussion on friday i will say good day. Good luck on the exam! Don't choke!

Binomial Distribution

Hello fellow classmates. To start class we did mental math, and unfortunatly Daine did something right, and I lost a mark. After this we went over the booklet which was assigned when Mr. Max was away. There were twelve questions to be done, most of which everyone completed. This made Mr. Max fairly happy so good job. We did a class vote of which questions to look over and #6 and #10. Here are the answers for them.

After he showed us how to do them on the calculator, he taught us the Ron Blond way. To do it the Ron Blond way all you have to do is:

1. Set your large N scale to 100

2. Set your small n scale to whatever your number of trials is.

3. Set your probability on the green and red circle at the top.

From this you just click on whichever numbers you need. If you need from 100-150, then click and hold from 100-150, and if you need a certain number, then just click that number.

Thats about all I have to say for my blog today. I hope you have wonderful evening, bye.

P.S. We have been comfirmed that we are doing the Provincial Pilot Exam.

Fundemental Counting Principle

Hello, so today we had another sub in the class, Mr. Penner. We were assigned "Exercise 2: Counting Principles" for the day. A reminder that the answer key to check your answers can be found on the coursework drive.

Yesterday in class we were to finish all pathways problems from the had out we received, and then teach ourselves the Fundemental Counting Principle.

Incase you were unable to finish the second half of the assignment, I will briefly describe it to you in the post.

The Fundemental Counting Principle

When two or more choices must be made together, the total number of outcomes can be determined without listing and counting them. The rule for this is known as "The Fundamental Counting Principle."The Fundamental Counting Principle states the following: If one event can occur in 'a' ways, a second event in 'b' ways, a third event in 'c' ways, and so on, then the number of ways that all events can occur one after the other is the product a*b*c. . .

ex. Sue has four pairs of shoes, five pairs of jeans, and seven sweaters. How many different clothing combinations can she select?

So you take the number of shoes, multiplied by the number of jeans, and multibly that by the number of sweaters.

4*5*7 = 140

The number of ways which Sue can dress is 140.

For more help on this or any other topic in the class always refer to the online course for help. Thats the end of my post, have a nice day!

March 3, 2008

Hey there, so today we got our matrices test back. I guess as a whole our class did very badly, so we need to crack down and get on task. After we looked at the test we went over a homework questions from the weekend that some people didn't quite get.

Before looking at the actual question we went over a method on how to do vector problems.
One idea Mr. Max expressed was the difference between a "drawing" and a "sketch". A drawing is a perfect, to scale picture, while a sketch is pretty much a doodle. Keep that in mind when doing homework and eventually the test.

While going through this method Mr. Max showed us that no matter what way your vectors are put together, as long as they're together to begin with, they can be put together any other way and still work. This created the bear holding the newspaper picture that was not purposely created and we kind of laughed a bit.

With twenty minutes left in class Mr. Max decided that for homework we were supposed to do one the remaining questions from exercise 3. So, please do either question 4, 5, or 6 from exercise 3. Have a nice day!

Goal Setting Assignment

Hey, so about this assignment. One major goal for myself this semester is to pass this class with an average of over 80%. Last year in my grade 11 math class I went into the exam with an 89 and then under acheived on the exam and it made my mark drop a lot. I hope this isn't the case this time around. Also, I play hockey and this is a link to where you can see my teams stats because we're awesome. The picture is obviously just a classic because of the amazing dynasty the Oiler are.
